a street-glam style guide for the modern woman.

Fair Isle.

Fair Isle.

Put this together back in February before my trip. Finally had time to post!

Outfit is still appropriate this March!

I wanted to find an innovative way to wear a heavy winter sweater, and keep it looking current.
(Even during those awkward chilly/sunny months before Spring.)
I grabbed one of my boyfriend’s winter sweaters and decided to dress it up! (H&M Winter 2012) I thought the play on fair isle print was different. The purple, orange, teal, and maroon geometric design is modern and cool. Instead of the usual red/white snowflakes & reindeer combo, it’s more reminiscent of tribal print.  less vintage, and more classic and forward!
The trick with menswear is finding a way to do oversized, without looking sloppy!

I always make sure to pick pieces where the seam at the shoulder doesn’t hang too low, and fits comfortably. Also, don’t forget to roll up the sleeves, so your arms aren’t lost in excess fabric. definitely adds structure to your look!

Threw on some over-the -knee tights and ankle wedge boots to give it some edge!  This also adds a touch of modernity to the sweater - which can easily look preppy with different accessories.

Change up the proportions! Instead of the usual tights or skinnys I’d pair it up with during winter… I opted for shorts. I Needed something fitted to offset the oversized cut of the top. I also threw on tights, since it’s still chilly! Also gives it a bit of flare!

Now for the accessories:

Added my favorite necklace (Aldo Accessories, Las Vegas.) Gives a touch of femininity to a menswear piece.  It also highlights the tribal vibe of the sweater.

Paired the outfit with my sister’s old vintage Esprit shoulder bag (circa  1990s) and stole my boyfriend’s ultra-modern square framed sunglasses.

The end result: a comfy, cool, and forward way to transition winterwear into Spring !

Hope this inspires you to change it up in your own closet!
